Am I paying for the insurance for beach houses on the coast of NC?

Not directly, but you are at risk for having to subsidize them. In 2009 the general assembly passed a law stating that if the beach plan insurance program, which is woefully underfunded, should come up short after a hurricane, then every property insurance policy in NC can be assessed a recoupment charge of up to 10% of the policy premium per year for as many years as it takes to cover the shortfall caused by the hurricane.
