IF YOU HAVE NO INSURANCE AND GIVE A FRIEND PERMISSION TO DRIVE YOUR CAR, WHO IS RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR FRIEND GETS INTO AN ACCIDENT?

First let's start that it is illegal in the state of North Carolina to drive without insurance.

If the accident is the fault of your friend then you are both responsible. Even if the friend has insurance, it would be for their car and not yours. Insurance follows the car not the driver.  The driver and owner are legally liable and can be responsible to pay damages.
